Job Title: COUNTRY DIRECTOR -VIETNAM

Job Location(s): Vietnam - Hanoi

Shape the Future. Build Partnerships. Scale Impact.

THE OPPORTUNITY

What if your next leadership role gave you the opportunity to shape an entire country program—not just manage it?

CARE Vietnam is looking for an exceptional Country Director to lead its next chapter of growth, innovation, influence, and impact.

Since 1989, CARE Vietnam has partnered with Vietnamese and international organizations to deliver more than 300 projects, tackling the structural causes of poverty and inequality and advancing the rights and opportunities of women and girls.

Today, the development landscape is changing rapidly. CARE Vietnam needs a leader who can see what is coming, create what is needed, and bring people together to make it happen.

This is a role for a visionary strategist, entrepreneurial thinker, exceptional people leader, and influential network builder who can translate ambition into results.

As part of CARE's commitment to localization, this role is open exclusively to Vietnamese nationals. The successful candidate will be employed on a national contract based in Vietnam.

YOUR MANDATE

As Country Director, you will provide overall strategic and operational leadership for CARE Vietnam, ensuring the organization remains relevant, resilient, innovative, financially sustainable, and positioned for greater impact.

You will:

Set the Vision & Drive Transformation

Lead CARE Vietnam’s multi-year strategy and turn it into action—anticipating shifts in the political, social, economic, and development landscape and identifying new opportunities for impact.

Champion innovation, digital transformation, entrepreneurial approaches, and new ways of working that keep CARE agile and competitive.

Build Influence & Unlock New Partnerships

  • Be CARE Vietnam’s principal ambassador and build trusted, high-level relationships with government, donors, civil society, communities, and the private sector.

  • Go beyond traditional fundraising to identify and develop new funding and partnership models, including commercial partnerships, results-based financing, fee-for-service opportunities, and innovative investment approaches.

  • Position CARE as a partner of choice and an influential voice on the issues that matter most.

Lead People to Perform & Thrive

  • Inspire a diverse, multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional results.

  • Create a culture where people are empowered to innovate, accountable for results, supported to grow, and confident to challenge the status quo.

  • Build strong leadership pipelines, develop talent, and strengthen organizational resilience.

Protect Excellence, Sustainability & Trust

  • Ensure CARE Vietnam delivers with quality, efficiency, integrity, and accountability.

  • Oversee financial sustainability, operational excellence, risk management, safeguarding, compliance, security, and responsible stewardship of resources.

  • Ensure the organization remains fit-for-purpose as its portfolio and operating environment evolve.

Turn Innovation into Impact

  • Champion programs that are evidence-based, locally owned, scalable, and centered on the needs of women and girls and communities experiencing vulnerability and exclusion.

  • Strengthen local partnerships and capabilities, harness technology and new business models, and work with government, communities, civil society, and the private sector to take successful solutions to scale.

THE LEADER WE WANT

We are looking for someone who is:

  • An Innovator:You challenge conventional thinking and turn emerging technologies, partnerships, and new business models into opportunities.

  • A Network Builder: You connect people and institutions around shared ambition and build relationships that create lasting value.

  • A Strategic Thinker: You can zoom out to see the bigger picture and zoom in to turn strategy into execution.

  • A People Leader: You know that exceptional results start with exceptional teams.

  • An Entrepreneur: You spot opportunities, take calculated risks, and are comfortable exploring new approaches to funding and impact.

  • An Impact Driver: You are focused not simply on delivering programs, but on achieving lasting, scalable change.

  • An Agile Leader: You thrive in complexity, adapt quickly, and give people clarity and confidence when the path ahead is uncertain.

WHY CARE VIETNAM?

This is a chance to lead an established organization with a 35+ year presence in Vietnam into its next era.

You will have the opportunity to shape strategy, influence the development agenda, unlock new partnerships and funding, transform how the organization works, and scale solutions that improve the lives of women and girls and vulnerable communities.

If you are ready to lead with vision, courage, curiosity, and purpose, CARE Vietnam wants to hear from you.

Lead the change. Expand the possibilities. Scale the impact.
