The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Please visit our website at www.eclac.org for further information. The internship in the Statistics Division, Santiago, will last for a minimum of 2 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an "as-needed" basis. Under the supervision or overall guidance of the Director of the Division, the intern will work on research on the relevance of official statistics for democracy. Tasks will include: • Assisting in data collection, validation, and cleaning processes. • Supporting the team in the preparation of external sector reports, including balance of payments and trade statistics, national accounts. • Contributing to the maintenance and organization of statistical databases. • Collaborating with team members on special projects or ad-hoc tasks related to economic statistics.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in,or have completed, the final academic year or a first university degree programme (minumum bachelor's degree or equivalent) (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required, and knowledge of English is also required.
