PATH seeks an Infectious Disease Surveillance Consultant for the STRengthening Infectious disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) Project. The global project will support and strengthen surveillance, detection and analytical capacity of infectious diseases across both human and animal health. In Guatemala, STRIDES is supporting national counterparts to expand and integrate event-based and indicator-based surveillance systems for timely detection, reporting, and response to public health threats, while strengthening data use for decision-making and multisectoral coordination. In this context, the Infectious Disease Surveillance Consultant will support the design, implementation, and monitoring of surveillance strengthening activities, including mapping surveillance systems, developing tools and protocols, building workforce capacity, and improving data flows and analysis to enable early warning and effective public health response, in close coordination with government stakeholders and technical partners
Scope of work:
The selected consultant will support infectious disease surveillance project activities in Guatemala, including:
- Landscape analysis and mapping of surveillance systems, data flows and health information structure.
- Designing or optimizing indicator- and event-based surveillance, outbreak detection, or response systems
- Strengthening data management, analysis, and use for early warning and public health decision-making, including the development of dashboards, reporting tools, and data governance approaches.
- Developing technical reports, presentations, and operational frameworks
- Capacity building and workshop facilitation in English and/or Spanish-speaking settings
The Infectious Disease Surveillance Consultant must meet or exceed the required qualifications listed below.
Required qualifications and experience:
The selected consultant should meet all the following core requirements:
Core Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in infectious disease surveillance systems
- Fluency in English and Spanish
- Strong client-facing communication and facilitation skills
- Ability to work independently in dynamic, multicultural environments
Desirable
- Master 's-level or higher in Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field
- Experience working with or advising Ministries of Health, Agriculture and others involved.
- Prior work with international donors such as Global Fund, Gates Foundation, USAID, WHO, or KfW
- Knowledge of digital health tools (e.g., DHIS2, malaria dashboards, AI-supported surveillance platforms)
- Experience living or working in/with Latin American countries
Must have legal authorization to work in Guatemala
