Job Description

Overview of the role and responsibilities

TRAINING COMPONENTS AND LEARNING ELEMENTS
The Intern will gain experience in working in an international multicultural environment, within the United Nations system.
• Gain experience in organization, management, and international cooperation activities.
• Gain a better understanding of IOM’s work, as an inter-governmental organization in the field of Migration, and work on formulating and editing institutional strategies, priorities and workplans.
• The Intern can also access online training courses at the disposal of all IOM staff.
• The Intern will have the possibility to interact with IOM staff within Headquarters and IOM Missions and external implementing partners.

SKILLS 

  • Ability to liaise effectively and professionally with counterparts and a diverse range of stakeholders. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in computer applications and software, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and experience in website maintenance is an asset. 
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest level of confidentiality and discretion. 
  • Strong responsiveness, flexibility, and ability to manage urgent requests in a timely manner. 

 

ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION

In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:

a) have a interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;
b) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme
  (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.

• Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted, and additional enquiries will only be addressed if the candidate is shortlisted.
• Depending on experience and location, IOM provides a small monthly stipend to help offset costs.
• Please consider the cost of living in the duty station prior to applying.

Responsibilities

Support the Organization of the Career Development Roundtable (CDR) 2026:
• Assist in the planning, coordination, and delivery of the annual CDR.
• Support with participant registration and related inquiries.
• Support the delivery of the conference and parallel events including the Career Fair and
dinner/evening receptions.
• Provide assistance to keynote speakers and clinic presenters at the event. 
• Participate in preparatory and planning meetings.
• Assist in liaising with suppliers and other event contributors.
•  Support with liaison and coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia and other stakeholders in Tallinn. 
• Perform such other duties that may be assigned.
 

Qualifications

EDUCATION
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Communications, Public Admiration, International Relations or a related field from an accredited academic institution with relevant professional experience.

EXPERIENCE
Relevant professional experience in Human Resources and/or project or event management is desirable.
