The Opportunity
The Communications and Advocacy Officer will enhance the visibility and influence of the Start Bangladesh Hub and the broader Start Network through strategic communications, branding, and advocacy support. Responsibilities include developing, managing, and disseminating content across digital and traditional platforms aligned with the network’s brand and strategic objectives for Start Fund Bangladesh, Disaster Risk Financing, FOREWARN, and Organisational System Strengthening. Key duties also cover strategic communications planning, audience mapping, media relations, social media management, platform operations, advocacy and influencing strategy, publication and knowledge management; ensuring that reports, learning documents, and case stories are effectively developed, communicated, and disseminated. The role requires creativity, strategic thinking, strong writing, editing, visual communication skills, branding expertise, attention to detail, the ability to translate technical content into accessible narratives, and design sensibility.
The role will be focused on the following areas:
1. Strategic Communications & Advocacy Leadership
2. Digital Engagement & Illustrative Content Development
3. Stakeholder Coordination & Capacity Strengthening
4. Knowledge Management
The Officer - Communications and Advocacy will report to the Coordinator, Start Fund Bangladesh, with a dotted line to the Country Manager, Start Bangladesh Hub. The postholder will work closely with the Start Bangladesh team and the Start Network Communications and Digital team to ensure successful delivery of all communication activities.
Qualifications and Experience
• Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a communications function within a fast-paced environment
• Working experience in NGO or Non-Profit agencies and humanitarian contexts would be added value
• Proven ability to design professional layouts, infographics, and social media visuals using Adobe Suite or Canva and proficiency with design software (e.g., Canva Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and multimedia editing tools for content creation and production.
• Basic photo and video editing skills (e.g., Lightroom, Premiere Rush, CapCut)
• Experience to handle and manage social media accounts (Facebook, LinkedIn etc.) and digital platforms
• Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Brevo, Constant Contact)
• Strong written and verbal communication as well as editorial skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Strong event management and field photography skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Excellent prioritisation and time-management skills and an ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines while delivering quality output.
• Bachelor's degree in communications/public relations/mass communication and journalism/social science or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
